How could you end up with a distribution charge?

On Behalf of | Aug 12, 2022 | Criminal Law |

A drug charge, especially one that rises to a felony level, may alter the course of your life for the foreseeable future. A distribution charge may prove difficult to beat unless you know what it is you are trying to fight.

Mississippi law takes drug distribution and trafficking charges seriously. Several factors determine the severity of the charge. Take a look at what constitutes criminal drug charges.

What does a distribution charge mean?

When the police arrest you on suspicion of drug distribution, it means they have evidence implicating you in selling or manufacturing illegal drugs. The drugs involved dictate the seriousness of the charge. Any drug or element of a drug that appears as a controlled substance on the DEA’s controlled substance schedules is subject to qualify for a distribution charge.

What dictates the level of charge?

The schedule of drugs provides law enforcement with a list of the drugs and substances used to create them. This list ranks drugs and chemicals by the level of addiction associated with them. The Schedule I drugs on the list have the highest addiction rate with no known medical uses. Drugs such as LSD and heroine are in this particular category. The higher the addictive properties, the more serious the legal charges associated with them.

A felony distribution charge may leave your life in a difficult spot. If you find yourself in this situation, you may want to speak with someone with experience dealing with these charges. It does not need to end with you behind bars if you have the proper preparation.
